FAQ: Fine Art Prints
About Our Fine Art Prints
Q: How large are the files your prints are made from?
A: All prints are made from 8K resolution original digital files and are printed at 300 DPI.
Q: What is a giclée print?
A: Giclée printing represents the pinnacle of fine art reproduction. Using high-resolution inkjet technology, it employs archival-quality pigment inks applied with extreme precision onto carefully selected papers or canvas. Unlike mass-produced prints, giclée requires meticulous calibration of color profiles, ensuring that every subtle hue, tonal shift, and brushstroke is faithfully preserved. The process is labor-intensive and requires specialized equipment, premium materials, and rigorous quality control—factors that contribute to its higher cost. For professional artists and photographers, however, this investment is essential: giclée prints capture the full emotional and visual impact of the original work, offering museum-grade longevity that can exceed a century without fading.
Q: What paper do you use?
A: We print on Canson® Infinity Baryta Prestige 340gsm paper. Baryta-coated papers are among the most celebrated choices for giclée printing and Canson's quality and consistency are second to none. Derived from traditional darkroom practices, these papers feature a silky, almost luminous surface that recalls the depth and refinement of fiber-based silver gelatin prints. Prints on baryta paper exhibit extraordinary tonal range—deep, velvety blacks anchor the composition, while crisp whites and vibrant colors bring clarity and vitality. This interplay of tones creates a remarkable sense of depth, giving images a sculptural quality that feels almost three-dimensional. For collectors and connoisseurs, the baryta finish is not merely a substrate, but an essential element that enhances the artistry of the image itself.
Q: How should I care for my giclée print?
A: Giclée prints are museum-quality artworks and should be treated with care. Always handle them with gloves to avoid fingerprints or smudges. For best protection, have your print professionally framed as soon as possible and display it in a dry space, away from moisture and humidity. While giclée prints are archival, they can still fade if exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, so choose a spot that avoids strong UV rays. With proper care, your print will remain vibrant and beautiful for years to come.
Q: Who provides your print fulfillment services?
A: Our gallery grade fine art prints are produced and shipped by theprintspace.
Q: Are the prints signed or numbered?
A: Every print bears my signature and includes a certificate of authenticity. Limited edition prints are also individually numbered, ensuring their uniqueness and collectability.
Q: Do you offer framing?
A: At this time, prints are sold unframed however, we strongly advise the use of acid-free framing materials and the use of UV-blocking museum grade glass, both to ensure the longevity of your investment and to maximize viewing clarity.
Q: Do you recommend picture lights?
A: Yes. Nothing makes an art print 'pop' like museum grade glass and good illumination. This is especially true of darker, moodier works. Tip: Avoid any light that produces strong UV — stick with LED lighting with a minimum CRI of 90 (higher is better), and a color temperature of 3000K.
Q: How large are the print borders?
A: Print borders vary according to print size and are kept to a minimum to allow for safe handling while providing space for edition numbers.
Q: How long will my print last?
A: With proper care, giclée prints on archival paper can be displayed as many as 100+ years without fading, preserving both color and detail. The figure is doubled if carefully stored in a light-free environment.
